Cambridge Domain is approximately 17.6 hectares of sporting venues, recreational activities & playgrounds, gardens & trees, walkways & trails, picnic spots galore, Te Kō Utu park & lake and a clutch of memorials to this and that. Did I mention the trees? And the ducks and coot!
So how do folk find out what is happening in and around Cambridge New Zealand? Local news, concerns, information sharing and other stuff? Here is an unscientific snapshot taken during May/June 2016. Cambridge New Zealand has two free weekly newspapers; Cambridge Edition (Fairfax Media) published on Wednesdays and Your Cambridge News (locally & privately owned) published on a Friday. We fall within the circulation of two metropolitans the NZ Herald (NZME) out of Auckland and Waikato Times (Fairfax Media) from Hamilton. The on-line visibility of up-to-date Cambridge New Zealand news is a little haphazard. Facebook is ubiquitous but fragmented into a multitude of pages, groups and promotional pitches some intersecting, many not. Yes, there are others and setting aside the stuff I know nothing of, we have: With 6185 members The Cambridge NZ Grapevine – Info Sharing Group Facebook group, with 4959 members Cambridge,Waikato,New Zealand Buy And Sell Page Facebook group and at 4257 members CAMBRIDGE,WAIKATO GARAGE SALE GROUP Facebook group. Then we have with 2039 likes Cambridge Edition Facebook page (Newspaper) and with 1742 likes We Love Cambridge Facebook page (Chamber of Commerce et al. / visitor promotion). With 1463 members Neighbourly Cambridge the Fairfax backed New Zealand startup, in terms of numbers, comes in at 6th place (Cambridge NZ Neighbourly divisions by ‘community’ some sympathetic to the lay of the land but others arbitrary include; Cambridge, Karapiro Maungatautari, Leamington, Tamahere, Tauwhare, and Te Miro), Where Fencourt, Hautapu, Monavale and Pukerimu are remains a mystery. There are radio stations. .. to be continued I’m sure!! 🙂
